MP Visits Dementia Café
Alex Sobel is encouraging Yeadon residents to get involved in the local dementia café. The MP for Leeds North West visited the café which takes place on the last Friday of every month in Yeadon town hall, to spend time with volunteers and service users.
The café is run by Memory Lane, an everyday specialist care service for individuals with some form of dementia. The café, however, is there for anyone in the community who wishes to come and attracts many who suffer from loneliness or learning difficulties as well as those from the community who want to spend some time with others in the community who may suffer from one of these. There is a weekly cafe every Saturday between 11am and 2pm at the Ingots Building on Cemetery Road in Yeadon, which anyone is very welcome to attend.
Refreshments are served for a small donation, and hot and cold lunches are available to purchase too. Bingo, sing-a-longs and a raffle and quiz are just some of the activities being offered each week.
Alex Sobel said “It was a real privilege to attend the dementia café in Yeadon and to meet the team of dedicated volunteers who provide such a fantastic service to our community. It was also brilliant to spend time with service users and chat widely about all sorts of topics as well as local and national issues.
I would highly recommend the service to anyone who wants to spend time with other people or who want to volunteer some time for our community.
Events and Community Fundraising Coordinator Amy Botterill said, “It was wonderful to see our MP at our event. He seemed very impressed by the café and spent some quality time with our volunteers and clients. If there is anyone in our area who wises to come and spend some time with others in the community, they would be more than welcome. “
