Home Office Bereavement Scheme

The Home Office Bereavement scheme is a scheme in which the Government grants leave to remain to families of health workers who die of Covid-19. The Government has extended the scheme to apply to NHS support workers and social care workers.

Leeds Bradford Airport expansion

I have today submitted an objection to the planning application made by Leeds Bradford Airport. My principle concern is not the building itself but the business model that depends on an increase of passenger numbers and therefore flights. Please find the planning objection in full  here.

Mcdonalds

McDonalds in Lawnswood is re-opening drive through lanes from 2nd June, operational between 11am and 10pm They have sent me the below

“Social distancing has been introduced in the kitchens and service areas to help create a safe working environment for restaurant teams. Perspex screens at Drive Thru windows and employees wearing protective equipment, as well as Perspex screens and floor markings in specific areas in the restaurant and kitchen. All McDonald’s employees will be asked to confirm they are fit and able to work, we will be conducting wellness checks and conducting risk assessments. Contactless thermometers will be used to take employee temperatures on arrival at work for every shift. Restaurants will return with smaller teams, offering a limited menu and operating reduced hours.  Capped spend in Drive Thrus at £25 per car and customers are encouraged to pay by contactless payment methods wherever possible. Ensuring our delivery procedures with couriers is contactless for both our people and our customer. Capped McDelivery order of £25”

Lord Mayor

A cross-party consensus has agreed that Cllr Eileen Taylor will remain in post as Lord Mayor until May 2021. In 2021 Lord Mayor Elect Cllr Asghar Khan will take the post. Support After Rape Leeds (SARSVL) will remain as the Lord Mayor’s charity for another year.

Cultural Renewal Taskforce

I welcome that the Culture Secretary has today announced representatives from the arts will join a taskforce. The taskforce will at help at getting the country’s recreation and leisure sector up and running again. In total, five new ministerial-led taskforces have been set up to develop blueprints for how and when closed businesses can reopen.

This is following publication of the UK government’s National Covid-19 Recovery Strategy to help rebuild Britain. Oliver Dowden, the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) will be chairing the taskforce responsible.

Parents and Carers

Three young people in Leeds have provided the voiceovers for a NHS singalong nursery rhyme. The rhyme encourages parents and carers to access care when their children fall ill or get injured. Other young people and their families can record their own version and share them on Twitter (@NHSLeeds) or Facebook.
