Alex Sobel last week welcomed Hilary Benn to Otley to discuss Brexit with residents.
The Leeds Central MP was in town fresh from the successful passing in Parliament of the Benn Bill, which is designed to prevent the UK from leaving the EU without a deal.
Hilary Benn said, “It was wonderful to be back in Otley to support Alex who has been such an effective part of the Parliamentary team that has prevented us from crashing out of the EU with No Deal. Residents in Otley were clearly impressed with this and with his campaigning locally, particularly on education and transport”
Helen Toft, the former chair of Otley and Yeadon Labour Party said, “It was fantastic to see Hilary out in Otley. Residents were clearly surprised to see such a famous Parliamentarian on their doorsteps and as the Chair of the Brexit Select Committee, he was able to clearly answer their questions. It is obvious how well thought of Alex is in Parliament and that was reflected by residents here in Otley.”
Alex Sobel said, “I’d like to thank Hilary for coming to Otley and for taking the time to talk to residents directly about their concerns. The Brexit crisis has such drastic potential effects so it is important that residents know how hard we are working in Parliament to ensure a solution that protects jobs, rights and living standards. Hilary and I both agree that the ultimate decision must be made by the people."
