MP Joins Woodcraft Folk Camping in the Constituency

Alex Sobel, MP for Leeds North West, has swapped canvassing for canvas this week, helping at a local Woodcraft Folk camp in Bramhope.

Camping out at Bramhope Scout Campsite, the MP has accompanied his own children and local Woodcraft Folk on a three-day trip including games, crafts, outdoor activities and a hike to Chevin Forest Park.

Founded in 1925, Woodcraft Folk is an educational movement and registered charity, founded and run by volunteers. The constitutional object is "to educate and empower young people to be able to participate actively in society, improving their lives and others' through active citizenship."

Alex said, “Leeds North West has some fantastic wild and green spaces, it is a joy to be experiencing them with my children and a wonderful local community group and some fantastic young people. We have done so much in such a short space of time – in varying weather conditions.

We have learned about local wildlife and managed to get all the tents up in record time encouraged by the downpour! A particular highlight was the hike to Chevin Forest Park and a very welcome coffee from the Cheerful Chilli”.

Locally, Woodcraft Folk has groups in Meanwood, Headingley and Otley. If you’re interested in finding out more and possibly you or your children attending a group (you never know, Alex might be there helping out!), then go to
