OTLEY ROAD CONVEINENCE STORE ALCOHOL LISENCE REFUSAL

Alongside local Councillors, I recently opposed the licensing application for the new convenience store at 80 Otley Road. This license would have allowed the store to sell alcohol.

As the shop is located between the Three Horseshoes and the New Inn, we believe it will add to the considerable problems already caused by the Otley Run. It will encourage people who cannot gain access to the New Inn to purchase alcohol and drink in the street, causing further ASB issues.

There is a Cumulative Impact Policy for the Otley Run area, whose purpose is to limit the number of Licensed Premises in the area. We do not believe any further licensed premises are needed along this stretch of road.

I am glad to advise the committee decision was to refuse the application.

We have also objected to the use of this sign on the new convenience store at 80 Otley Road. The shop does not have planning consent for this sign. We have objected and a planning enforcement case has been opened.
